UPMC Mario Lemieux Center for Blood Cancers

Designed by Pashek + MTR and built by Eisler Landscapes and Landau Building Company, the Mario Lemieux Center for Blood Cancers 4th Floor Terrace Garden received a Silver Award for Acute Care in the 2013 Landscape Architecture Awards for Healthcare Environments. This rooftop respite was designed with patient healing in mind. 

Located in the Hillman Cancer Center at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, this rooftop respite is six stories above congested Center Avenue. Due to the sterile environment of the hospital inside, all materials for the project had to be hoisted from the street by crane.

• 1500 sf of green roof,
• 1400 sf of water jet cut thermal gauged bluestone patio paving
• variety of shrubs, perennials, sedums, and grasses.
